On this page, you will find the four most recent Ted Talk emails from our pastor, Rev. Ted Goshorn. These are weekly emails that keep us all informed on the life of our church. This page will serve as a resource in case you have misplaced the email or just want to learn more about what is happening at Eastman First UMC.

March 16, 2020

Today’s is a bit different than usual, reflecting our response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please carefully note the following 

  • A pastoral note on the pandemic
  • Eastman First UMC’s response 
    • We will pray our way through this time of uncertainty. Beginning today, a daily prayer video from Ted will go up on Facebook. The text of that prayer will be available at eastmanfirst.com/pray
    • We will offer a variety of ways to engage with our faith and the church remotely. Watch our social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and our website for additional postings. 
    • This is still a fluid situation so please stay tuned to our website and social media as updates are available 
    • All updates below are in response to the requirement of our bishop and the recommendation of the CDC
    • Services 
      • In-person worship services are suspended until further notice. 
      • At 11am every Sunday, we will have a live-streamed service. Watch the website and social media for additional details 
      • Note: You may view the livestream on Facebook even if you do not have Facebook. Visit https://www.facebook.com/EastmanFirstUnitedMethodistChurch/
    • Events, rehearsals, and the like 
      • All are cancelled until further notice 
      • This includes, but is not limited to, CMO, Holy Cow, choir, praise band, miracle bells, uplifters, Wednesday night suppers, small groups, Sunday school, Methodist Men, and Joy Fellowship 
    • Church Office
      • Is closed until further notice
      • Cathy and Ted are working remotely. The church office phone is forwarded to Cathy, so you may continue to call 478-374-4327 or email at eastmanfumc@gmail.com
    • Giving
    • Community support
      • Ted has been in touch with local agencies and governments offering the churches support. Stay tuned to Social media and the church website to learn how you could help over the next coming days.
  • The Annual Conference’s Response
    • All district and conference events are cancelled through at least the end of March.
    • The bishop has sent out instructions that churches are to do the same
    • The bishop will be offering a livestream option every Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

    • Rev. James Aycock, former pastor of this church, passed away Friday, March 13. We were notified this morning that funeral services were today.

    • Tire Drive! Bring your unwanted tires to the Transfer Station (Old Landfill off Dodge Ave.) where someone will be there to unload them for you between March 18 and March 31. There’s no limit. Help us clean-up old, unwanted tires!

    • Do you know a farmer impacted by Hurricane Michael? Direct them to farmrecovery.com, the landing page for the Georgia Department of Agriculture’s block grants to help offset losses from what Commissioner Black called the “worst disaster to ever hit our land.” 
    • The 2020 Census will soon be upon us! Participation is vital as $2300 per person per year is allocated through the state and federal government via the census report. Keep a watch on your mailbox and visit 2020census.gov to learn more

  • This Week
    • Ash Wednesday is this week. Our annual service begins at 6pm and the Soup Supper follows. Bring some soup to share if you’d like but, regardless, join us for the beginning of the Lenten season when we remember Jesus’s life in anticipation of his death and resurrection.

    • Worship Committee: Interested in helping with set-up for worship services, decorating the sanctuary and social hall, and other related duties? Contact Susan Coffee or Mary Kirkley to learn how to serve!
    • Mentors are needed to serve with the After School program. You will have a one on one relationship with a high schooler, helping him or her dream about what is possible for their future and seeing beyond roadblocks. Email Ted to sign up and receive details: tgoshorn83@gmail.com
