Back to School | Back to Church

Starting August 1!

Join us as we mark the start of a new year, not only at school, but in the life of our church. Now that we can be together again, we are launching several new initiatives aimed at encouraging all of us to grow in faith through fellowship and service together. Check out the details below:

Worshipping Together

Arise Worship Returns | Begins August 1
On August 1, we will formally relaunch our Arise Worship Service at 8:45AM. This service will feature our new contemporary worship leader, Rachel Blanchett. Check out a video of her leading worship on our Facebook page.

Worshipping Together In-Person | Begins August 1
Also beginning August 1, we will temporarily suspend the live-streaming of worship services. We look forward to seeing each of you in person at 8:45AM in the Social Hall or 11:00AM in the Sanctuary. Sermon manuscripts will continue to be available for reading at eastmanfirst.com.

Growing Together

New and Robust Children and Youth Sunday School Curriculum | Begins August 1
This new curriculum, Think Orange, provides fun, engaging, and developmentally-appropriate content for children and youth. Your kids will come home excited about having been at Sunday School! We launch this new curriculum on August 1. If you’d like a preview of it, click here. Also, be sure to download the Parent Cue app on the App Store or Google Play.

Lunch and Learn | Wednesdays at noon, beginning August 18
Bring your lunch and join us at the Social Hall to discuss a great little book, In the Name of Jesus by Henri Nouwen. Each week, we’ll discuss a chapter in the book, having first read the chapter at home. The chapters are short and yet profound. Discussions will be led by Ted. Learn more about the book and order your copy by clicking here.

Join a Small Group | Interest Fair September 14
Small Groups are a great way to grow and learn as well as develop lasting friendships that offer spiritual support. On September 14, learn about how you can be part of a small group.

The Upper Room Sunday School Class | Begins August 1, 10:00 a.m.
A new Sunday School class will begin on August 1. This class is open to all ages and will feature a relaxed, casual, atmosphere focused on sharing prayer requests and discussing a simple lesson.

Fellowshipping Together

Youth Kick-Off | August 1, depart church at 1:30 p.m.
The youth are headed to Macon Rocks, a rock climbing spot in downtown Macon, to kick-off the new year! Rising sixth graders are welcome to attend as they join in with the youth. The cost is $20 per youth and includes dinner after rock climbing.

The Return of Party at the Parsonage | August 8, 5:30 p.m.
We will relaunch our monthly fellowship opportunity for families with school-aged children. This will begin on the Second Sunday in August and continue monthly as schedules allow. August 8 will be Spaghetti Sunday. The Goshorns will provide the entree and drinks with each family is asked to bring sides to share.

Movie Night and NEW Cookout | August 28, 6:00 p.m.
Join us in the Social Hall for a movie night! The United Methodist Men will be doing a cookout and then we’ll watch a movie together. The movie is Inside Out, a classic Pixar hit from a few years ago. We’ll be watching on the big, outdoor movie, screen and having an outdoor movie inside while it’s still hot and buggy.

Serving Together

Reading Buddies Resumes | Date TBA
Communities in Schools will again be sponsoring the Reading Buddies program, something many of us have enjoyed in the past. This one hour per week commitment brings us into the schools as positive role models through reading books together with a child. Stay tuned for more information about how to sign-up.

Service Sunday | August 29
Our next Service Sunday comes on August 29. We’ll be doing projects to support our local schools. This is a great tradition we began on May 30 to serve together as a church on each fifth Sunday. Stay tuned to the website and Facebook for more details as we get closer to time.

As always, keep up with the latest from our church by following our Facebook page.
